A Brief History
About me
I am an astronomer in the Astronomical Observatory Institute at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, funded by the POLONEZ Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant of the National Science Centre, Poland. I did my PhD in the Dark Cosmology Centre at the University of Copenhagen under the supervision of Jens Hjorth and Darach Watson. My first postdoc was at the Institute for Astronomy, University of Edinburgh with James Dunlop. Then I was a Pegasus Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Gent with Maarten Baes. I moved back to Edinburgh and then obtained my current fellowship.
What I am doing
Research
My research concentrates on the so-called interstellar medium in distant galaxies, i.e. gas and dust between stars. This is an important ingredient of any galaxy, because it is the fuel for making new stars. Hence, the amount and properties of the interstellar medium govern how galaxies evolve.
- gamma-ray bursts and their host galaxies
- supernovae and their host galaxies
- mergers of black holes and neutron stars (electromagnetic signal and gravitational waves)
- sub-millimetre galaxies
- passive galaxies
